Bunnythorpe

(From Our Own Correspondent.) At the monthly meeting of the school committee the headmaster (Mr. Abraham), reported that the roll at present was 118 and the average attendance for the month, 105. Considerable sickness, colds and several cases of scarlet fever, had affected the attendance. The play ground was still very wet in spite of any attention given to the plug drains and the sloppy nature made basketball practice impossible. The boys had had considerable football practice under the tutorship of Mr. C. Pinfold, whose services were greatly appreciated. Practice for the fancy dress ball was proceeding satisfactorily. The school floors needed oiliO§ to obviate the dust nuisance. Entries were coming forward for the calf and plot competition but he hoped many more would be forthcoming. The issue of milk was resumed this week. A special meeting of the local Labour Party was held recently to enable members to meet Fliglit-Lieut. Baxter, ex R.N.Z.A.F., the newly appointed Labour Party organiser. About 20 members were present and Flight-Lieut. Baxter was introduced by Mr. K. Cameron, chairman. He delivered an interesting address dealing with the Labour Government’s achievement, policy and party organisation and gave sidelights on life in lands which he had visited during his service overseas. The meeting was later addressed by Mr. C. H. Fry, president of the Feilding branch. Mr. P. G. Guy moved a vote of thanks to the ladies for preparing and serving supper. The committee of the local Y.W.C.A. Club were the organisers of an enjoyable euchre party last Saturday evening. There was a good attendance and after an enjoyable time was spent playing cards, supper was served by Mesdames Abraham, Stevens, Northcott, Harris and Weastell. The ladies’ prize was won by Mrs. C. Stevens and the men’s by Mr. A. H. Faulkner, while a competition was won by Mr. Sigglekow.
