Attractive Morning Wedding

WHYTE CROAD. A pnetty wedding was celebrated at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Palmerston North, on the morning of June 30. 1945, when Joyce /May, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Croad, of Opiki, was married to Kenneth Russell, only son of Mr. and Mrs. L. li. Whyte, of Tokoinaru. The officiating minister was the Rev. John Hubbard, M.A., 8.D., of Palmerston North. The church was decorated by the bride’s aunt, Mrs. E. A. Croad. The dainty bride looked most attractive as she entered the church on the arm of her father. Her street length frock was of powder blue cloque with self coloured embroidery on the sleeves, yoke and basque. The full gored skirt was finished at the back with a stitched belt, while the bodice was gathered and featured a high neckline with which a string of pearls was worn. A small blue hat trimmed with flowers -and cyclamen veiling falling over the face and forming a bow at the back, was worn, also black patent shoes. A bouquet of white camellias, roses and maiden hair fern completed her toilette. The bridesmaids were Miss Jean Sievers (friend of the bride) and Miss Beryl Croad (bride’s sister). They were dressed alike in dusky pink frocks cut on similar lines to that of the bride’s with V necks finished with embroidery. Each wore a string of pearls. Caps of pink felt trimmed with flowers were worn and they carried bouquets of pink camellias, cyclamen and maiden hair fern. Mr. Colin Williams officiated as best man, while Mr. Peter Whyte (cousin of the groom) was groomsman. The ushers were Messrs W. Cx*oad and R. Greig. On leaving the church the bride was presented with two lucky horseshoes, one by Joan Whyte (the bridegroom's sister), the othei by Colleen Croad (bride’s cousin). The reception was held at the P.D.C. tearooms where Mr. and Mrs. Croad and Mr. and Mrs. Whyte received some GO guests. The bride's mother wore a navy blue striped costume and fur necklet with navy blue hat and accessories and shoulder spray of red cyclamen. The bridegroom's mother wore a black striped costume, black hat and accessories with shoulder spray of red cyclamen. The toastmaster's duties were carried out by Rev. Hubbard. The beautiful two-tiered cake which was made by the bride’s mother, was cut by the bride. Many congratulatory telegrams were received from both North and South Islands.

When Mr. and Mrs. K-. R. Whyte left for New Plymouth, amid showers of confetti, the bride wore a smart green and tan suit with tan hat and accessories. She also carried a finger-tip length fur coat, the gift of the bridegroom.
