The annual report of the Feilding Bowling Club refers to the passing 01 Mr. George Bartholomew, 1 ‘one of the oldest and finest members of the club. ’ ’ Feilding's vital statistics for June, together with those for the same month last vear given in parentheses, were as follow: Births, 13 (12); deaths, 6 (11); marriages, 4 (6). The following are the Feilding Basketball Association’s fixtures for games this week-end: Kauri v. Warriors, 1.30; Cobbes v. St. Brigid’s B, 1.30; High School Av. High School B, 2.15; St. Brigid’s A v. r eilding, 2.15; Old Girls v. Hui Mai, 2.45.
The Ruahino mountain range presented a fine sight yesterday from Feilding where a ueautifui day followed a heavy frost. The range is heavily coated with snow, indicating some recent heavy falls, and this should provide a constant background until well into the early spring. The following are the results of the Feilding Municipal Band boys’ quartette competition held on Monday evening last: B. Garlick (leader), D. Dewe, D. Maegaard, W. Domett, selection “Mountain Breezes”* (Rimmer) DOpts. 1; D. Williams (leader), E. Baker, K. Summers, W. Jones, selection “Puritani” (±sellini) 89pts., 2; B. Kent (leader;, I. Sims, H. Wong, G. Zuppicich, selection 11 Comrades in Arms ’ ’ (Adams) 88pts., and O. Smith (leader), C. Uregory, P. Spone, T. Dippard, selection “Gondoliers” (Schubert) 88pts., equal 6. The competition provoffed considerable interest and the boys performed very well. The judge was Mr. Hickman.
The 24th annual meeting of the Feilding Agricultural High School Old Pupils’ Association was held on Tuesday evening, Mr. S. A. Mcindoe presiding. it was decided to increase tne annual membersuip fee to five shillings anu the life memuersinp to four guineas. The financial statement showed a sound position. Officers elected were: Patron, Mr. D. J. Wild; president, Mr. K. Elliott, V.C.; vice-president, Mr. M. Barltrop; secretary, Miss N. Irving; treasurer, xVliss IVL Walton; four town women, Misses O. and A. Amyes, G. Fergusson and Mrs. D. Barltrop; four town boys, Messrs L. Carthew, D. Griffin, I. and G. Guy; two country women, Misses D. Bridgeman and J. Clapham; two country boys, Messrs Mcindoe and R. B. Grant; district representatives, Messrs W. H. England, L. Beard, I. Scott, D. I. Morrison, L. I. Scott, D. Smith, P. Coleman, T. Mayo and W. A. Carthew.
Repatriated prisoners of war for Feilding who arrived by special train on Tuesday evening were met at the station by the Mayor (Mr. T. L. Seddon) who was supported by Messrs C. H- Tate (R.S.A.), K- M. Little (Patriotic Society) and members of the Red Cross Society as well as immediate relatives. Pte. M. W. Searle, who was met by his wue and little daughter, mother and parents-in-law, was taken prisoner in 1941 during the North African campaign. While crossing the Mediterranean the boat was torpedoed and he subsequently landed on the coast of Greece and was transported to Germany. His last prison camp was near Berlin and he was liberated by the advancing Americans and flown to England. Gnr. H. A. Readman was another repatriated prisoner due to arrive but failed to leave the train. He is staying with Rev. and Mrs. Hoffman, Baptist Minister, of Feilding.
