Taonui School Ball

The Taonui School presented an animated scene last Friday night when the annual ball was staged. Coloured streamers transformed the larger, school room where a crowd of happy children went through a varied programme of folk dances and novelty numbers, the winners of prizes being Robert Campbell and Patricia Henderson (Monte Carlo) and Nigel Price and Ivan Wallace (spot waltz). Card enthusiasts were well catered for with a euchre tournament, Mrs. Id. Jefferies being the successful lady, while Mr. D. Henderson and Mr. W. Ansin carried off the men’s prizes. Consolation prizes went to Mrs. R. A. McFarland and Mr. A. Waugh. At the conclusion of the children’s programme Mr. R. A. McFarland, chairman, expressed pleasure at seeing such a large gathering and congratulated the teachers, Mr. Hayden (head) and Miss F. MacLeod, upon the splendid work they had done in training the children. *Mr. McFarland also extended thanks to the parents whose cooperation contributed much to the success of the function. Items contributed during the evening were vocal solos by Mrs. Westell and Mr. N. Shortall. Lady helpers served several sittings of supper, and dancing for adults continued until a late hour, Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan winning a Monte Carlo w'altz. Mr. D. McFarland was M.C. Miss N. Price was the winner of two raffles.
