Apiti
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Following a lengthy period of illhealth, Air. Josiali Charles Alapson, of Apiti, passed away in Feilding on Sunday, June 17, at the age of 62. The son of Charles and Priscilla Alapson, ho was born at Brinkworth, Wiltshire, England, and came to New Zealand 33 years ago. He was in the employ of
ihe Pohangina County Council, having been a roadman for the greater part of that time. By his occupation he was well known, and held in high esteem by tho community. He was married at Palmerston North to Miss Clara Craddock. Sympathy will be extended to Mrs. Alapson, the only daughter, Joau, of Apiti, and the two sons, Charles and Fred, who are serving with the 2mi N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East. Tin funeral service at the residence and at the Apiti cemetery was conducted by the Presbyterian minister Rev. G. 1). Falconer. The floral tributes included wreaths from the chairman and councillors of the Pohangina County Council and the Apiti Women’s Institute. Pallbearers were Alessrs. J. W. and 11. G. Alapson (brothers), L. Guy, B. Waterson, T. Waters and C. Buckman.
The monthly meeting of the Young Fanners’ Club took place on Alonday evening. Air. I*. R. AlcKay presided. Air. Watkins, the manager of the Apiti dairy factory, gave an address on buttermaking. It was decided to hold a dance, the date of which is to be arranged later. Alessrs. Iv. Stanley and F. Viles were elected to the Y.F.C. committee.
At the annual meeting of the Anglican Ladies’ Guild Rev. F. E. Fleury presided. The annual report was read by the secretary, Airs. Alunro, Airs. Prujean (treasurer) presented the balance sheet which showed the finances to be in a healthy condition. Tho president, Airs. Lockett, secretary, Airs. Munro and treasurer, Airs. Prujean were all re-eletced. It was decided to donate £lO to the missions and £25 to the assessment fund. The vicar congratulated the ladies on their efforts during the year. A social competition was won by Airs. N. Viles, whilst Bobbie AlcKay was tho winner of the mystery parcel. Shoulder sprays were presented to Airs. Fleury anil Airs. Lockett by Airs. Payton. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses Alesdames Wliite and Payton.
Mrs. Wilson, of Christchurch, who' was the guest of Airs. Falconer for a few days, has returned home.
Aliss Joyce White has returned home after a short holiday spent in Linton. Aliss Rix, of Linton, is staying with Mrs. White.
Air. Harold Sage, of Carterton, is spending a few days with his sister, Mrs. Grenville Doughty. Alisses AI. AlcKenzie, and F. Buckman have returned home after a fortnight’s holiday spent in Napier. There was a large attendance at the fortnightly card evening run by the Anglican Ladies’ Guild. The winners were: Euchre, Airs. Waterson and Air. Don AlcKenzie; consolation, Airs. Prujean and L. Hogan. Cribbage, Airs. Wildbore and Air. L. Alartin; consolation, Airs. C. Buckman and D. Prujean.
