The death occurred yesterday of Mr. John Samuel Neville, 0.8. E., a former town clerk of Christchurch. Mr. Neville was born in Lyttelton in 1874 and educated there. After 12 years ; service with the Railway Department he joined the City Council in 1901 us a rate collector. Two years later he was appointed assistant town clerk, a position he held until 1924 when he was appointed town clerk. Mr. Neville retired in April, 1940, after 39 years’ service with the Council. He was awarded the 0.8. E. in 1938.
