Welcome to New Y.W.C.A. Secretary
Miss Hazel Williamson, the new general secretary of the Palmerston North Y.W.C.A., was initiated in a delightfully informal way at a pleasant social evening in the Central Club on Wednesday last. There were tall jars of hydrangeas and bowls of scarlet geraniums artistically arranged by Mrs. T. P, Hart to grace the club room, and those present to greet the newcomer were members of the board, committee and club representatives. Those present were paired off to introduce each other to the guest of the evening and intimate their particular connection with the association. There were active and sitting games, group acting and competitions, also pleasing interludes with pianoforte solos by Mr. | Christopher {Small, Miss Lynda Richards being in charge of the programme. The 11 initiation’ ’ of the new secretary was carried through with due ceremony by Mrs. C. A. Small, president of the board, and her associates, after which she presented Miss Williamson with a basket of flowers. Returning thanks for her introduction to a Y.W.C.A. initiation ceremony, Miss Williamson said she had been glad to come to Palmerston North where already she felt part of the association. The warmth of her welcome had brought it home to her more than ever that they were all part of a great fellowship, and she had never felt she was a stranger. Not only the officials but also every individual member made the Y.W.C.A. what it was, and with the help of them all she hoped to make it continue to grow and be known more in the community. Supper time provided opportunity for chatting together and concluded the evening’s activities.
