Hon. D. G. Sullivan Turns for Home
EXTREMELY BUSY TWO MONTHS (Official News Service.) LONDON, Feb. 21. Hon. D. G. Sullivan has left London on the first stage of his return by air to New Zealand. On his way across America he will spend a few "days in discussions at Ottawa and Washington. Mz*. Sullivan had spent an extremely busy two months sincfe his arrival in London. On almost every day of liis stay he had discussions or interviews on aspects of postwar air services and industrial and trade matters with British Government Ministers and authorities and representatives of industry. In addition he was received by the King and met Mr. Churchill and other members of Cabinet.
The second phase of his activities was the opportunity he seized whenever and wherever possible of meeting New Zealanders in the forces. In Britain he met and spoke to hundreds of men and women in uniform from clubs in London to air and naval establishments where New Zealanders were serving. From Loudon, too, he set out on a comprehensive tour of inspection of the N.Z.E.F. in the Mediterranean theatre.
The only disappointment, the Minister said, was the breakdown through unfavourable weather of the arrangements he made to visit New Zealand squadrons now stationed on the Continent and at the same time accept an invitation sent to him by Field-Marshal Montgomery to' meet the British commander at his headquarters in the field. Mr. Sullivan was to have flown to Holland last Friday to spend some days with the Dominion squadrons supporting the present drive into Germany. He stood by day after day while the crew of an R.A.F. Transport Command aircraft waited for a break in the weather and a flight clearance, but the adverse conditions persisted until he could no longer delay his journey to Washington which had already been postponed as long as it could be.
