Power Politics and. Poland

Received Wednesday, 11.50 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 21. Professor D. L. Savory (Belfast) in the Commons asked Mr. Eden in view of the fact that Western Galacia had never been in the possession of Russia what evidence he had that the inhabitants east of the Curzon Line had any desire to be incorporated in Russia. Mr. Eden replied that the House undoubtedly knew the strength of the Ukrainian National Movement which had existed for many years in this territory. It was clearly not a matter on which the Government could be expected to have detailed factual and up-to-date evidence. Professor Savory: Aren’t you bound by the Atlantic Charter to consider these populations before transferring them? ' Mr. Eden: This is not purely a PoloRussian question. It is also very much a Ukrainian question. Major-General Knox: Isn’t this a surrender to power politics? (Cheers.)
