(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. E. Henaglian presftled at a recent meeting of the Patriotic Society. A resignation was received from Mrs. Closey who has left the district. At the beginning of the month the ladies’ committee packed 17 addressed parcels for local servicemen overseas. The committee decided to support the Aid to Allies Week to be held from September 4 to September 9. It was decided to make a grant to assist the next-of-kin of our four P.O.W. in sending pai’cels. The results of the last euchre are as follows:—Ladies, Mrs. Newcombe 1, Mrs. Clinton consolation; men, Mr. W. Laurence I, Mr. D. Clark consolation. Mrs. R. Vautler has returned from a short visit to Wellington. Mrs. Archer and family are spending a holiday in New Plymouth. Misses J. and E. Lynch ai-e spending the school vacation at their hoine, Napier Road. Miss H. Harrowfield is spending the holidays at her home on Te Matai Road. At the week-end Miss C. Vautier journeyed to New Plymouth with a representative basketball team.

The combined group of the Brltis Music Society in Palmerston North m« recently at the home of Mrs. Howie; Papers on Handel and Haydn were rea by Mrs. C. W. Bowick and ,Miss K. Ga! braith and the following items were rer dered: Songs by Handel, Mrs. H. Howie; Mr. Bowick, Mrs. G. Nilsson, Mr; Pascoe and Mrs. A. W. Black; songs b Haydn. Mrs. Abraham and Miss Highet; flute solo, Mrs. E. Hockin (Handel); violin solo, Mrs. F. Chittend*<Haydn); duets, Mrs. Swainson and M. Bowick.
