(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Utuwai hall was a happy centre on the occasion of a complimentary dance arranged by the Apfti Patriotic Committee for Pte. Colin John McEwen, who is on final leave. Relations and friends from Apiti, Feilding, Palmerston North, Pohangina and surrounding districts came to wish the guest Godspeed and a safe return. Mr. Hugh Roberts, of Piripiri, was M.C., and everyone enjoyed oldtime and modern dancing to music by Mrs. Smith. Non-dancers played cards, [n making a presentation, Mr. W. McKay (for the committee) and Mr. B. M. Fla vail (for the R.S.A.) voiced the sentiments of their respective ox-ganisations. The gathering joined in musical honours. Mr. McKay, apologising for Mr. W. McKenzie, president of the Apiti branch of tlx A R.S.A.. and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Viles, also tnnk the opportunity of speaking on the Victory Loan, Introducing Mr. Lockett, postmaster of Apiti, who is directing the campaign In this area. He also announced that a welcome home is being arranged in Apiti for Mr. Colin Spence, who is returning from overseas. Supper was served by Mesdames H. Roberts and C. Searle and willing helpers. Mrs. J. Lack and her small daughter, of Wellington, are visitors with Mr. and Mrs. G. Nicols. Mrs. John Mackenzie is oh holiday with relatives in Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay.
