No Negotiated Peace For Germany or Japan
Received Thursday, 8.60 p.m. WASHINGTON, Aug. 31. Mr. Cordell Hull told a press conference that General Dietmar’s radio speech indicated the German High Command’s desire to put out feelers for a negotiated peace, but he emphasised that unconditional surrender will remain the Allies’ only terms for Japan and Germany. Mr. Hull revealed that the State Department was constantly giving attention to the possibility of Hitler and his underlings seeking refuge in a neutral country. He again warned that the Germans will be punished for the inhuman acts which the Polish Government reported that the Nazis are at present perpetrating in Warsaw. The Polish Government said without regard to age or sex that tens of thousands of men, women and children were being herded into concentration camps where under appalling conditions of want they were being tortured and left to die.
