Germans Leave Armour Behind in Seine Crossing
(British Official Wireless.) Received Wednesday, 9.20 p.m. RUGBY, Aug. 29. It is estimated that 76 per cent, of enemy troops west of the Seine have got across to the other side and are fleeing deep to the east, but most of the vehicles, guns, armour and equipment they had in the woods have been destroyed or will never escape across the river. We have them well and truly bottled up. In addition 92,000 prisoners have been taken on the Allied fronts between August 10 and 25. It was disclosed at General Dempsey’s Headquarters that over 3000 motor transport of all kinds, 160 tanks, 180 heavy guns and hundreds of horsedrawn wagons and dead horses and Germans have been found in the shambles of the Gap. It is emphasised that this is hy no means the complete count.
