“GOD’S JUSTICE MUST BE DONE” Received Wednesday, 9.50 p.m. NEW YORK, Aug. 30. “The secret of the. moral strength of the French Underground is that we learned how unspeakably inhuman the enemy is,” said the French Underground leader, Andre Le Bord, in ail interview with Leland Stowe. North American Newspaper Alliance correspondent in France. “Maybe Americans still believe in good Germans, but in Europe nobobdy believes in good Germans any more. “Let me give conservative illustrative figures: During four years tfie Germans executed at least 80,000 Frenchmen. They also deported 400,000 others—not for forced labour but punitiveiy. Last July the Germans hanged 100 civilians in the village of Ussel for smuggling food to hiding Frenchmen. “In a village in my own region they burned 28 to death with flamethrowers because they fled from forced labour. A Gestapo captain told me: ‘The trouble is that we cannot dispose of the corpses. We cannot burn and bury them fast enough. Otherwise we would kill more.’ ” Le Bord added: “If we fight like madmen in France it is because God’s Justice must be done.”
