Ten Million Soldiers Will Create New Crime Problems

IF THEY BECOME VICTIMS OF UNEMPLOYMENT Received Wednesday, 7.30 p.m. NEW YORK, March 21. Ten million returned soldiers would create new problems in crime detection because men trained to kill would not slump back into the normal life, they pursued before joining the army, said the Federal Bureau of Investigation head (Mr. E. E. Conroy) in a speech in New York. “Some of the commandos," he said, ‘‘might become a particular danger since they had been taught to kill skilfully and soundlessly and their ranks included certain percentages who would normally become criminals. Now they were going to become post graduates in crime. Others who did not possess criminal instincts might be driven to utilise the technique of killing they had learned in the army if they became victims of unemployment or other real or fancied ills. ‘‘Most men where there is want revert to the old type savagery under which they can take care of their own. The picture is not pleasant."
