Labour’s Chances For City Council
Present indications are that the Labour candidates at the May municipal elections may have very good chances of winning seats on the Palmerston North City Council. It is understood they have already chosen their representatives although no names have been announced. On the other hand inquiries made yesterday reveal that no steps have been taken to run a Citizens' ticket as in previous elections. Further than that, it looks as if several members of the present city council will not be seeking nomination. Crs. E. Jl. Smith, D. F. Smillie and T. R. Lees are the only ones who were prepared to say they would be in the field again. Crs. G. Tremaine, F. G. Opie and J. T. J. Heatley are undecided. Cr, J. Hodgens was absent in Wellington yesterday but there is no doubt about him facing the barrier agaiu. Cr. A. Grigor is definitely not seeking rejection. Ho it seems that Labour's chances are as bright as they have ever been in a municipal election in Palmerston North.
