Meat Ration Clarification
WELLINGTON, Feb. 22. Because the meat ration is on an ex penditure basis questions have arisen about the price that should bo paid for meat. The Rationing Controller (Mr. J. E. Thomas) stated tonight that tho ration is related to the ceiling price under the meat price order, and that these ceiling prices are for “cash and carry.” “One question asked/’ he said, “is whether people in. some districts may not get less meat than others through having to pay a higher price for meat on account of booking and delivery charges. The position is,” said Mr. Thomas, “that the ration is related to the amount paid for the meat only, excluding any incidental charges, e.g., where meat purchases amount to 1/4 but a penny of the total represents booking and delivery charges, then coupons need be surrendered only for 1/3 the net charge for the meat. Where invoices are given in such cases, it will be advisable for retailers to show the net charge for meat and the additional charges as separate items.”
