Bunnythorpe

Major Norm Bicknell, of Wellington, Who was a padre in the present war and was with the New Zealand forces in Libya, Greece, Crete and in the drive from El Alamein, will be the speakerguest at to-morrow’s luncheon of the Feilding Civic Club. His talk will concern the campaign and he is an excellent speaker.

On a recent Saturday there was a large gathering of ladies at a card afternoon with a ‘ 1 bring and buy ’ ’ stall organised by the Catholic Ladies’ Guild. Cards were in charge of Miss Armstrong and the first prize was won by Mrs. Davies, Mrs. Church 2. Miss K. Scheldt won the consolation prize. Travelling parcels were won by Mcsdames Booth and McKay. A sales table in charge of Mrs. Galpin and Miss A. Scheidt did good business. A competition was won by F. Price, while H. Cheetham won the second prize. A feature of the afternoon was the floral decorations of spring blooms. A happy time was spent by those who attended a gift evening organised by the Bunnythorpe basketball girls in honour of Miss A. Sinclair in view of her approaching marriage to Mr. C. Davies. The time was spent dancing to music supplied by a professional pianist. A number of novelty dances added to the enjoyment, Mr. Sinclair acting as M.C. A ] esentation was made to Miss Sinclair by Mrs. Todd, captain of the basketball team,, and another was made by Miss Powell, president of the Women’s Institute, of which Miss Sinclair was an active member. Miss Sinclair was then asked to accept the gifts brought by those present. After opening the parcels Miss Sinclair thanked all for their best wishes aud their useful gifts. Supper was served by members of the Basketball Club and dancing continued till midnight.
