Broadcast to Greeks and Yugoslavs
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Sept. 8. Cairo radio broadcast & message from General Maitland Wilson to the Greeks and Yugoslavs, telling them how to act in the new circumstances. He said that if the Italians failed to carry out the terms of the armistice, they would be liable to punishment. “The Italian forces will now obey my orders, not those of the Germans. Accordingly they must cease hostilities against the Greeks and Yugoslavs.” General Wilson added: They must fly their aircraft to Allied airfields. In his earlier message to the Italian armed forces, General Wilson said that every Italian unit must maintain the strictest discipline and keep its forma tions. The Italians must resist with their arms every attempt to disarm or disband them or seize their arms, stores, and petrol.
