Soviet Gives Sanction To Church Activities

(British Official Wireless.) Received Thursday, 7 p.m. RUGBY, Sept. 8. The Orthodox Church in Russia has a Patriarch and Holy Synod again for the first time since the Revolution. The Episcopal Orthodox Church yesterday unanimously elected Metropolitan Ser gius as Patriarch. The Holy Synod, consisting of the Patriarch and six Metropolitans, were elected at the same time. The Assembly met in the former private villa of von Sehulonberg, former German Ambassador to Moscow. The Soviet Government has placed a building at the disposal of the Orthodox Church. The new Patriarch is 7G, and has been Metropolitan of Moscow since 1934 and acting Patriarch 3ince 1935. Mr. Stalin was born into the Orthodox Church and studied at tho Treological Seminary in his native town of Tiflis.
