British Warships Can Now be Used Elsewhere
LONDON, Sept. 8. The end of hostilities against Italy will free powerful British naval forces, including the new 35,000-ton battleships King George V. and Howe for service elsewhere. Britain has enjoyed naval supremacy in the Mediterranean since June, 1910, but it has been costly. Some of Britain’s latest and best ships are at present in tba Mediterranean under Sir Andrew Cunningham. During the operations in the Mediterranean Britain lost one battleship, two aircraft-carriers, at least 11 cruisers, about 29 destroyers, and a large proportion of 58 submarines reported missing in all waters. The Italians lost one battleship, 10 cruisers, 42 destroyers, and 32 submarines.
