GALLOPS AT AWAPUNI WANGANUI CANDIDATES ATTRACTED INTEREST ON SATURDAY MANY FINE TRIALS There was plenty of fast work at Awapuni on Saturday morning and the going was good. The course proper was open and the flags were well out. Horses engaged at the Wanganui meeting, which opens at Marton next Saturday, attracted most interest, and there were many fine trials. Rink (C. A. Bowry) and Kaitoa (A. S. Ewan) were away to an <even start and they ran seven in 1.39, the last three in 40. Both galloped well and finished strongly. Screen and Sir Bradbury Screen (A. G. Waddell) and Sir Bradbury recorded 1.6 for five and it was the best of the morning over the distance. Sir Bradbury was on the inner and he looked to be giving away some weight. They were on tex-ms at tho finish after running the last three in better than 40. It should not take many gallops to bring Screen up to “concert pitch.’’ Deference, the stylish Posterity-Hom-age filly, was not required to do better than even time over three. J3he is a very nice mover. Vera Lynn (Smith) worked steadily over a mile and she came home easily from the three in 43. Foxcover (J. Fagan) and Flying Ace (D. W. Redstone) galloped six in 1.22 and Foxcover went better than he did on Thursday. Tavern Light worked over a round, coming home from the seven in 1.44. Precious Gold (Howard) was in front of Man's Pride (Andrews) at the end of half a mile run in 56. They came home in 40 1-5. Phalaria (Redstone) sprinted five in 1.8, and Black Robe (A. Midwood), with a companion, was timed to run five and a half furlongs in 1.13 3-5, the last five in 1.6. Leisurely (Ewan) drew away from Kahuranaki (Bent) at the end of half a mile run in 55 4-5. The Leat and Ballynokano recorded 55 1-5 in a similar task, coming home in 40. Solver (Waddell) and Aspen (Bowry) went well over five. They began brilliantly and were on terms at tho finish, the time for the full distance being 1.9. Some Sing slipped home from the three in 42 2-5. The tw’o-year-olds, Choi'al Dance and Nigger Girl were given a run down the straight, both shaping attractively. Happy Ending, looking a picture, was

given a “pipe-opener” over three in 41 J. Nighean worked easily over six in 1.26, Rickie and Fiancial taking 1.25 in a similar work out. Gladynev and Don Quex worked over a round and the pace was on from the seven from which peg they ran home in 1.39, the last three in 41 2-5. They were together at the finish. Classform and Te Kawiti Classform (H. P. Stewart) and Te Kawiti (V. Sellars) were given a similar task. They were given time to find thei: feet, but the pace was on inside a furlong. They reached the three in 1.13 3-5, the first furlong in 17, and they came home strongly in 40 to complete the mile in 1.54 3-5. Conspicuous went Avell over five. Blairichburn went with the chestnut for two furlongs and Thumbs Up for the last three. The time for the full distance was 1.7, the last three being cut out in 39. Maestro (V. Sellars) and Queen’s Charm (Kendall) worked well over a mile, but they were not required to go faster than 15 to the furlong. Hakim (light boy) and Sporting Gold (T. Paul) came home in 40 to cut five out in 1.9. It was Hakim's first effort over five and he went well. Sovereign l>ad was given a work-out over a mile with the pace on for the last three run in 41 2-5. A number of horses were schooled, among them being Moderate (Redstone), Greek Effort (Bowry) and Tuatara (Miss Freda White). They jumped well. Half Caste (Miss White) and Henry of Huntingdon again jumped the country, going better than they did on Thursday. A VALUABLE REMEDY.
