Manawatu Federation Of Women’s Institutes

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Mrs. T. D. Lynch (Linton) presided over a meeting of tho executive committoe of the Manawatu Federation of Women’s institutes held yesterday. Pleasure was expressed on Mrs. A. J. Will’s report that Mrs. A. Poananga, who is still in hospital, was making progress towards recovery. Miss M. Grant reported on the meeting called by the National Council of Women to arrange for the celebration of the golden jubilee of the granting of women’s franchise. It was unanimously agreed to make a donation towards the expenses. The secretary, Mrs. T. E. Collins (Rongocea), reported having sent a telegram of congratulation to Mi's. H. Barnicoat, newly elected Dominion president, and her acknowledgement was read to the meeting. Ashhurst W.I. forwarded a report of patriotic activities which was commended. The treasurer, Mrs. H. V. Caverhili (Rongotea), presented the financial statement which was considered satisfactory. The following contributions were acknowledged:— Affiliation fees: Rongotea £3 Is; Foxton, £3 17s; Linton, £1 13s; Oroua Downs £2 2s; Opik;, £1 13s; Koputaroa, £1 2s. Dominion Federation quota: Kelvin Grove 10s; Rongotea, 10s; Tiritea, 10s; Linton, 10s; Opiki, 10s; Oroua Downs, 10s. Donations Manawatu Federation: Rongotea, 10s; Linton, £1; Koputaroa, 10s; Whakarongo, 10s. Arrangements were made for the halfyearly council meeting to be held at Newbury the last week in October. It was agreed to postpone the proposed floral festival and to urge membex's to support the Palmerston North Hospital Society's daffodil show on September 16, particularly the special sections for institutes and garden circles. Mrs. Lynch, as Federation delegate to the Dominion Council, referred briefly to proceedings and her full report will be presented next meeting. An appeal was made for support for the shop and street day on behalf of the Manawatu branch of the Crippled Children Society, the secretary to send out circulars to all the institutes.
