TRENTHAM TRACK WORK TRACKS WERE VERY HEAVY YESTERDAY With rain setting in during the night, conditions were far from pleasant at Trentham yesterday morning. The tracks were very heavy, but a fair amount of fast work was undertaken. No. 1 trial grass and the two-year-old track being both in use. The following comment is by “Binocular,” of the Post:— Ann Hatfield and Sharpura worked attractively when running half a mile in 52 3-ssec. The pair appeared to be quite at home in the going.

Hyderabad, a newcomer to the crosscountry candidates on Saturday, ran an easy seven furlongs in 1.44 1-5. Although he has not done much recent racing ho looks well.

Piastre came homS strongly to complete a mile in 1.59, time that Talenta improved upon when she rttn the distance in 1.56 1-5. The latter’s stable-mate, Killeymoon, slipped over half a mile on the two-year-old track, which became the more popular, in 52 1-5. Still later Khurja strode along very freely to complete a mile task in 1.54.

The steeplechasers Spendthrift and Noko showed quite a fair turn of speed by completing six furlongs in 1.25. There is some doubt whether Noko will go to the post in the July Steeples, but should he fulfil tlie engagement he will be ridden by F. J. Boyle.

Stairway, a Parliamentary Handicap candidate, ran his first three furlongs in 43sec, and then went on to complete seven furlongs in 1.39 2-5. Landveyor and Kinsman, who are also engaged in the big flat race, were a fraction slower over the first piece, and ran the full journey in 1.39 4-5. They were all under a firm hold.

Keeping together, Hasten and Dozie Boy ran an easy mile in 1.54 1-5. Later The Cardinal and Black Musk finished well clear of Radiant Bay at the end of a mile in 1.52 1-5, the first half-mile in 5b 1-5. Fairy "Bard, a southerner who is ibuilt on attractive lines, had Platform as I a partner over a mile. They came home particularly well to complete in 1.51. Platform revelled in the going.

Bisquit, who will run in the July Steeples on Saturday, strode over seven furlongs at a. steady pace in 1.4 G 1-5. Boloyna and Sing Sing came home strongly to run six furlongs in 1.22 after covering the first two in 26 2-ssec. Sandy Bay and Flahuluk ran similar time, with the former appealing the more. Irish Chance and Rockery were speeded up to run 1.21, After Paliid had broken away he returned to run five furlongs with Hunting Charm in 1.4, both going well. Enlarge finished a shade better than Foxella In 1.6. Town Survey and Ring Chief came home together well clear of Sanction, who was kept under restraint, to run the last half-mile of six furlongs in. 53sec. Sanction then went on to complete another round. Esquire led Frustration throughout a five-furlongs gallop, the last half-mile being accomplished in 52 4-ssec. War Effort and Regal Night came home their last half-mile in 54 2-ssec. OtheVs to fulfil useful tasks, but who were not timed, were:—Cramond Bay and Croat March (5 furlongs); Caithness (5 furlongs); Crucible (half a mile); Rich Blood beat Air Port (7 furlongs); Gaymiss, who was anxious to secure her head (6 furlongs); Fur Coat and Denary (the latter moving nicely for two-year-old); Bashful Lady, a shade ahead of Royal Chorus {6 furlongs); Whaekie, who was well clear of his • two companions; and Grilse, kicked up, was ahead of SymJ bol at the close of a short sprint. Symbol ' was doing it better, however. Gold Spot (L. C. Brown) was the only one to jump the country. He did not take the first brush very well, but thereafter fenced beautifully, completing the round by taking the initial brush a second time.

The only scratchings announced to date for Saturday are:—Boulder Dam (4.52 p.m., Tuesday) and Pell Mell (12.50 p.m.). However, It is understood that Faultless will not be a runner in the Corunna Hurdles. AWAY TO TRENTHAM L. G. Morris Sent Flying Ace through to Trentham yesterday. HORSES FROM C. J. THOMSON’S STABLE Renascor, Colossal Chief and Alethea are to go to Trentham to-day. Renascor will be ridden to-morrow by T. Tito, and Colossal Chief by A. Jenkins. No ride: has been engaged for Alethea. JOCKEYS’ PREMIERSHIP With three days’ racing left, including the second day of the Wellington meeting, the southerner, W. F. Ellis, is leading for the jockeys’ premiership with 41 wins. W. J. Broughton is next with 40, the pair being well clear of J. Williamson (27), who is followed by L. J. Ellis (23), W. R. Hooton (23), V. J. Sellars (21), and D. W. Redstone (20). LEADING TRAINERS F. Smith (24) is the leading trainer, next in order being J. J. Waller (19), PI. Dulieu (18), A. E. Didham (17), T. F. Verner (16), R. H. Martin (15), and L. G. Morris (15). Mrs. A. W. McDonald and G. W. New have each had 11 wins.
