Women’s Institutes

OHAKEA The OJiakea Women’s Institute met at the residence of Mrs. T. H. Tremain, there being a small attendance due to sickness and holidays. Mrs. 11. Fagan (Sanson) displayed a rug made from sock tops and Miss D. Flyger gave elocutionary items. Mrs. A. K. Drew extended an invitation to a function at her home. An appeal was made for gifts of suitable books and magazines for the forces. RANGIOTU Mrs. Beard presided over a fair attendance of members in June. Remits for the conference were read and discussed. Members agreed to take home tins to make cakes or biscuits for tho next lot of patriotic parcels. The members from Pykes Road volunteered to pack the next parcels for overseas. The Bainesse and Pykes Road members entertained the Institute with a very interesting charade. Mrs. McKenzie volunteered to make the sponge for next month’s competition. Competition winners were: Rolling penny, Mrs. H. Cook; sponge cake, Mrs. Baker; melon jam, Mrs. McKenzie 1, Mrs. Jepsen 2, Miss Gimblett 3; child’s apron from 251 b. flour bag, Mrs. Griffen 1, Mrs. Jepsen 2; best bloom, Miss N. Alve 1, Mrs. Alve 2, Mrs. Jepsen 3. Next month’s competitions are: Fancy handkerchief, best six violets, best bloom and bring and buy. Hostesses, Mesdames White, Alve and McKenzie. PROVED PILE CURE.
