PALMERSTON NORTH BRANCH ! ,Mrs. B. A. Bond was in the chair at the July meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the Women's Division of the I Farmers’ Union. Preliminary arrangeI ments for the visit in August of Miss M. Cocks Johnston, garden tutor, were made. New members welcomed were Mrs. Blax land, senr., Mrs. M. Strang, life member on transfer from Mauriceville, also Mrs. H. Clapham. Mrs. W. Montgomery reported that the Sewing Circle was still busily engaged and a large suitcase of 60 garments had been sent to the United Guild during the month. She expressed pleasure that visitors called to see them at work, at Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame’s, the president having lately been at the rooms taking away garments to remodel into useful clothes for children. Mrs. Montgomery referred to the wool situation and called attention to competitions and demonstrations arranged for the quarterly meeting of the Wellington Central Provincial, to encourage home spinning and the use of homespun wool. Miss M. Matheson (hon. secretary) reported that two housekeepers had just completed duty in the district satisfactorily and the dressmaker was at present in Palmerston North. The Rest Home was full and proving very popular. There was considerable discussion on the sending of parcels to soldiers overseas owing to the difficulty of securing a variety of comforts. The offer of Mesdames Nicholls and Tremaine to bring in parcels ready for the next dispatch was gratefully accepted. Mesdames Taylor and Easton reported on hospital visiting and asked that branches send notification when members were in hospital. Mrs. Gooding had visited the soldiers' ward. Mrs. Tremaine was complimented on her appearance as a member of the Women’s Band Army and told the meeting of the equipment she had received. Mesdames A. T. Nicholls, 11. Millard and Conlan were in charge of the bring and buy stall, brisk business resulting.
