No increase in borough rates is likely when the estimates for the approaching financial year are placed before the Feilding Borough Council. Notwithstanding prospective works ahead it is understood that the Council will not embark on any programme involving any stepping up of the existing rate charge. Addresses to parents on the new outlook on post-primary education have been given lately, by Mr. L. J. Wild headmaster of the Feilding Agricultural High School. This will make it an offence for persons to be found in the gardens after dusk. During the hearing of appeals at yesterday's sitting of the Armed Forces Appeal Board in Feilding, respecting carpenters engaged on essential works, it was stated that work on a number of State houses in Feilding was likely to be resumed in the near future. This appointment arose from the request of the Feilding Agricultural High School to the Education Department and Mr. Wild at a meeting of the Board of Managers stated that during this week Mr. O’Connor, organiser in Wanganui, was assisting Miss Willis. With a view to rendering social service in a practical way the Feilding Agricultural High School has evolved a scheme by which householders in need of assisttauce with gardens, lawns, etc., or even with occasional house duties, may apply to the school social service bureau. Pupils are assigned jobs in rotation and a charge of 1/6 an hour is levied, all the money being paid into the school fund.
