Feilding Agricultural High School

The Board of Managers of the Feilding Agricultural High School met on Wednesday evening, Mr. J. Knight (chairman) presiding. In his report, Mr. L. J. Mild (headmaster) stated that the school roll stood at 27G, made up of 190 boys including 120 boarders) and S 6 girls. As the boarding establishment was now up to the limit, he had had to refuse several applications for admission. Mrs. Espiner left at the end of February to take up duty in Palmerston North and her replacement was subject to the approval of the Manpower Committee as it involved the question of a transfer from another district. Most afternoons had been spent out of doors at swimming and life-saving, physical drill, squad drill, and instruction in cricket. All of these activities had been properly arranged so as to preserve a balance between free activities and organised exercises. Singing periods had been included while the pupils had had the advantage of lectures on first-aid and home nursing through St. John Ambulance Brigade. Evening classes had commenced while a class in mathematics for Air Force candidates was also being conducted.
