Manawatu County Council
The Manawatu County Council met at Sanson yesterday, Cllr. W. E. Barbel (chairman) presiding. The chairman together with Cllrs. W. E. Pearce, J. Boyce, A. N. Morcom, the County Engineer (Mr. H. V. Bond) and the County Clerk (Mr. A. K. Brew) will represent the Council at the forthcoming conference to be held in Palmerston North to consider the constitution of the proposed Manawatu Catchment Board to be set up under the direction of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council. The matter of cleaning out a drain adjacent to the property of Mr. H. B. Thompson at Rongotea was left in the hands of Cllr. Pearce and Mr. Bond (County Engineer) to attend to. The Treasurer’s report stated that the County Fund A/c. was in credit £13,87'/ 5s 7d and . the Loan A/c. in credit £1217 11s. Receipts since the last meeting amounted to £5323 11s 2d and this sum included £1468 on account of the current year’s rates. The County Clerk reported that rate payments had been very satisfactory, over DO per cent, of the European late having been paid. The tramway manager reported that the earnings for the month amounted to £143 11s 7d while the expenditure totalled £250 17s lOd. Most of the expenditure was on account of wages in connection with the ballasting of the line. The question of providing a new access to Tangimoana via Whale Bine was mentioned by the County engineer who stated that plans to this end had been submitted to the Public Works Bept.
