Comforts for the Minesweepers
At the monthly meeting of the Minesweepers’ Comforts’ Circle, Mrs. D. Evans presided over a small attendance. In the absence of Mrs. Norman Nash, Mrs. A. A. Langley carried out the secretarial duties. Mrs. Mclndoe reported having handed in five pairs of sea boot stockings and 1 jerkin made from home-spun wool. Miss E. Warren reported for the knitting circle that 24 jerseys, 14 balaclavas, 7 pairs socks, and 15 pairs of mittens had been packed, 50 articles in all. For the parcels’ committee, Mrs. Robson stated that eight parcels weighing over 71bs. each had been sent to men of the Merchant Navy. Mrs. Langley reported that ten large cakes and 201bs. of shortbread and biscuits had been sent to the Flying Angel Mission to seamen. Donations from Mrs. Hudson’s knitting circle ana from Mrs. Thompson, of Oroua Downs, were gratefully acknowledged, also £1 Is from the Sunshine Club. It was agreed to accept the offer of Mrs. E. W. Mills for the Girl Guides in her district to make hussifs for the circle, also the offer of Mr. H. M. Scott for the Technical School girls to assist in knitting. A roster of duty for servicing the A.N.A. Club, Broadway on March 19th, 20th and 21st, was drawn up.
