North Island V.A. Committee Conference
Yesterday delegates to the North Island Voluntary Aid Committee of the New Zealand Red Cross Society held their quarterly conference in Palmerston North, meeting all day in the Red Cross hall, Cuba Street. Mrs. J. B. Campbell, Havelock North, was in the chair and in the absence of Miss Madge Thurston (hon. secretary), these duties were carried out by Miss D. Arnold, o± Napier, who generously offered her assistance. Among those present were Misses Barnett and Jewiss, representing the Health Department, Miss H. Iris Crook, Director-General of the New Zealand Red Cross Voluntary Aids and delegates'from the following centres:— Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu, Marlborough, Poverty Bay, RotoruaTaupo, Taranaki North and {South, Waikato, Wairarapa, Wanganui, Wellington, and Whakatane. Mr. C. R. Harkness, commandant of the Wellington Men’s detachment, was also present and gave an interesting insight into the men's work. Useful discussions took place throughout the day on the work of Voluntary Aids and decisions will be referred back to the Voluntary. Aid Council. Appreciation was expressed by the chairman of the privilege of meeting in the spacious new hall, of the thoughtful gesture of the Manawatu Centre in meeting all the delegates arriving by train or bus, also in serving morning and afternoon tea with V.A.’s m uniform to wait on the visitors, the meeting endorsing Mrs. Campbell’s remarks. Manawatu delegates were Mesdames Duncan Cook, J. Dalgleish and W. Borrie, also Mrs. C. Anderson (Transport Service).
