Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Free Church Street, who have been holidaying in Auckland and Tauranga, have returned to Palmerston North.
The friends of Mrs. A. G. Linton, of Woodville, will regret to learn of the entry of her son Billy into the Dannevirke Hospital. Miss Audrey Candy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Candy, Aorangi, Feilding, has left for Wellington to take up medical studies at Victoria University College.
In the absence of the president (Mrs. W. F. Field), Miss C. Warburton presided at the first meeting of the year of the National Party women’s section. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs. Field in her continued ill-health, and the secretary (Mrs. J. H. Whyte) and Mrs. F. J. Nathan (a former vicepresident) in their illness. Reports were received from the war work section (Mrs. C. A. Driver), who stated that a number of the workers were still away, but that 24 garments were ready for despatch to the United Guild. Appreciative letters had been received from soldiers overseas for their parcels. Mrs. Hayward reported on club activities, pointing out the increasing popularity of the club for functions. She reminded members of the annual meeting. Miss Murray, convener of tho bridge committee, recommended that bridgo afternoons should be held on the third Wednesday, commencing in March. Mrs. Grimshaw (for the women’s section) undertook to arrange the roster of canteen duty at the Showgrounds. Mrs. H. G. Miils, who had rendered noble service in this activity, was thanked for her Work, regret being expressed at her decision to relinquish the position. It was decided to hold tho annual meeting following the next monthly meeting in March.
