100,000 Tens of R.A.F. Bombs

LONDON, Feb. 24. More than 100,000 tons of bombs have been dropped by the R.A.F. Bomber Command on Germany, Italy and the occupied territories since the outbreak of war, it is authoritatively stated. Over half the total has been dropped in the last 12 months. The beginning of a serious phase for Germany in the air war muy be imminent as day-bombing, if developed regularly, may hasten the end of the war, according to informed air quarters. German fighters are already extended and, if day-bombing is increased aud the area of attack extended the Luftwaffe may be stretched to the stage where bombers will bo able to get through without casualties. Already heavily-armed American bombers have shown the ability to force their way through heavilydefended areas in daylight.

The extent to which the R.A.F. has developed daylight attacks is shown by the fact that more than 2000 sorties have been flown during 1942.
