Lighting Restrictions

CAMPS MUST COMPLY “ Officers commanding in the various military districts throughout the country are under direction from Army Headquarters to observe the lighting restrictions to the full extent required of the public.” This statement is contained in a letter received by the E.P.S. organisation in Palmerston North from the Lighting Controller (Mr. F. T. M. Kissel) in reply to an inquiry. Tho E.P.S. Controller in Palmerston North (Mr. C. V. Day) had forwarded to the Lighting Controller a cutting showing the comments made by. the Magistrate (Mr. H. I*. Lawry) when informations were laid in tho Court recently against four persons for alleged breaches oi the lighting restrictions. On that occasion Mr. Lawry indicated that he would not impose fines while military premises remained lighted as they were. The Lighting Controller states: ”1 am in sympathy with the difficulties faced both by the E.P.S. authorities and tho Magistrate in the case as reported in the newspaper cutting which you sent to rue. While it is most necessary for the public to observe the requirements of the Lighting Regulations, officers commanding in the various military districts throughout the country are under direction from Army Headquarters to observe the lighting restrictions to the full extent required of the public.”
