Peppy Day
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The Great War gave us tho Poppy emblem and, in the certainty that Poppy Day as a uatioaal institution will survive, my Association is making its annual appeal on Friday, 24th inst. The sale of the poppies provides us with an opportunity of exhibiting in a practical (oven if very modest) wav that our expressions of gratitude to and confidence in those who have gone or who shall go forth in our defence are not mere words. Over the years, through the medium of Poppy Day, the aggregate of what has been accomplished by the public of : Palmerston North in caring for such of [our ex-servicemen as have required assistance should afford those who have [contributed the great satisfaction. T> us upon whom has fallen the task of administering the funds raised, it has [been a matter of extreme pride that the people have remained mindful of ! the men of the last war as I am certain [they will be of those of this present j conflict. May I in appealing to all to [contribute freely this year thank them for their generous responses in the past. T cannot close this appeal without a special word of thanks to each one of that number of women who so euthusinstmallv year after year have ex tended to us the privilege of their help in achieving the success that has ever crowned our appeal.—l am. etc., B. J. JACOBS. President, 8.8. A.
