AOKAUTERE Mrs. Orr (vice-president) presided in the absence of the president (Mrs. Brungar) in April. Mrs. Pedersen was welcomed and enrolled as a new member. Mesdames Brungar and Lankshear were appointed delegates to the annual council mooting. Points prizes were donated by members for the refugee garment. Arrangements were made to hold a Paddy’s market next month in aid of soldiers’ parcel fund. Mrs. W. R. Hopcroft kindly offered to help make an eiderdown for the "ompetition, the wool being donated by Messrs. Robertson and Gosling. Competitions resulted: Seniors, enow chow, Mrs. H. Robertson 1, Miss E. Orr 2, Mrs. Tate 3; juniors, 3 pikelets, Miss H. Lankskear I, Miss E. Petersen 2, Miss D. Durden 3; refugee garment (pixie hat), seniors, Mrs. W. R. Hopcroftl 1 , Mrs. Mackie 2, Miss E. Orr 3; table vase flowers, Miss I. Anderson 1, Mrs. D. Scott 2, Mrs. Lankshcar 3; best bloom, Miss I. Anderson 1, Mrs. Mackie 2, Mrs. Lankskear 3. The penny competition was won by Mrs. Lankskear. Hostesses for May are Mrs. Ferguson, and Misses E. Blinkion and 11. Lankshear, Mrs. Dickens to donate a penny competition. Competitions: Seniors and juniors, papier mache bowls, any size; refugee garment, girl’s warm bloomers; garden circle, bowl chrysanthemums, best bloom. Mrs. Orr gave an interesting demonstration' on making papier mache bowls, a number of dishes and flower pots were on display made from paper. BUNNYTHOKPE At the April meeting, in the unavoidable absence of the president (Mrs. Faulkner), Mrs. Harris (vice-president) presided. Names of mei ,i who had sons or brothers serving overseas were asked to be handed in as soon as possible so that a parcel could be sent to each of the men. Members were reminded of the council meeting to be held in Palmerston North, the delegates being Mesdames Harris and Vautier. It was decided not to send a delegate to the annual conference being held in Wellington this year. Several interesting letters were read from men serving overseas who had received parcels through the United Guild. Each year the Institute has placed a w'reath on the monument at the Recreation Grounds. Mrs. Harris once again kindly offered to make a wreath for the coming Anzae Day. Members were reminded. that a further batch of parcels for sending overseas w'ould be packed on Tuesday morning, April 28, in the supper room of the Hall and it is hoped a goodly number will roll up and assist. Mrs. Hansen whs handed a money box for Baby Hansen. An announcement was made that the W.W.S.A. would be holding a dance with euchre for non-dancers next week. • The points prizes for the year were presented as follows:—Mrs. C. Harris 1, 'Mesdames L. Woods and Payne equal 2. The competitions for May will be 3 leeks, best bloom and 3 scones, and the Golden Thread talk will be given by Pat Jepson. Mrs. Payne has kindiy offered to demonstrate Italian quilting. The hostesses are to be Mesdames Martini, Rosenbrook, G. Lassen and Vautier. As this concluded the business for the evening, members adjourned to the hall where a most enjoyable programme had been arranged by the younger members in honour of two members who were to be married shortly and one member who had been married recently.
