At the Tecent Red Cross examination held in Palmerston North, eight members from Opiki sat in the elementary section. All passed the examination with a high percentage of marks. They were Mesdames Graham Smith and E. Tucker, Alisses E. Barry, Molly and Vera Hocking, Bettie Jackson, Lorraine Cooksley and Marj Wilson. A team from the St. Peter’s Club, Terrace End, journeyed to Opiki to play the local club, Opiki winning nine sets and 78 games to St. Peter’s seven sets and 71 games. Details of play are as follows, Opiki being first mentioned:— Ladies’ singles: Mrs. Krivan beat Miss Dobson 6 —4, Miss Barrie beat Mrs. Greer 6—3, Airs. Robertson lost to *Aliss Ranson I—6, Mrs. Larsen lost to Airs. Earles 2—6. Men’s singles: R. Aitchison beat L. Hale 6—5, A. Simpson beat Rainford 6—4, J. Aitchison beat Crocker 6—3, C. Jensen lost to Reed 3—6. Ladies’ doubles: Airs. Krivan and Miss Barrie lost to Aliss Dobson and Airs. Greer 5 —6, Alesdames Robertson and Larsen lost to Aliss Ranson and Mrs. Earles 2 —6. Men’s doubles: J. Aitchison and C. Jensen beat Crocker and Reed 6—o, R. Aitchison and A. Simpson beat Hale and Rainford 6 — 'S. Mixed doubles: Airs. Krivan and R. Aitchison beat Aliss Dobson and Hale 6—3, Miss Barrie and Simpson beat Mrs. Greer and Rainford 6 —4, Airs. Robertson and G. Aitchison lost to Aliss Ranson and Crocker 5 —6, Airs. Larsen and Jensen lost to Airs. Earles and Reed The Opiki W.I. is holding its annual children’s Christmas party on Saturday night next at 7.30 p.m. It is to be followed by a social evening. There has been euchre arranged for nondancers and a happy evening is expected.
