FINAL MEETING OF YEAR At yesterday’s monthly meeting of the Woodville County Council, Cr. M. 0. Grainger (chairman) presided over Crs. J. Mitchell, E. D. Cattanaeh, ft. H. Morgan, W. Galloway, C. Itamsden and E. W. Norman. The clerk (Mr. J. M. Graham) and the engineer (Mr. W. J. Hawkes) were also present. Leave of absence was granted Cr. J. M. Hutchinson. Correspondence A circular from the Grey County Council requesting council’s decision in regard to the payment of wages to employees on military service was received. A land transfer in Kiritaki from E. S. Klein to J. E. C. Whibley was approved subject to being in order. General Cr. Kamsden mentioned that the bridge near Mr. Little’s property at Kumeroa required attention. The engineer replied that he had the work in mind. Referring to a previous query by Cr. Norman regarding the council’s liability in the event of one of its vehicles being involved in an accident while carrying passengers, the chairman stated that he had received assurance that the council was protected. Cr. Norman inquired of the possibility of the council making a turning place on Druce’s Road, Kumeroa. The matter is to be looked into. The question of closing the office over the coming holidays was left in the hands of the chairman. , chairman wished the councillors, I the staff and the press the compliments eaar i, season > and accounts totalling fc, 96 10s 7d were passed for payment, concluding the meeting.
