Notes of the Day
After a long spell of wet Fridays, Feilding yesterday enjoyed a fine warm day. Residents of the Cheltenham district are reminded of the local patriotic committee’s social evening next Friday in honour of members of the forces on leave. The annual meeting of the Feilding and district Primary Schools’ Amateur Athletic Association will be held in the Lytton Street School on Monday next at 8 o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Pearce, after a visit to friends in Wanganui, spent a few days in Feilding with their daughter, Mrs. Russell Darragh, before returning on Friday to their home at Haitaitai, Wellington. The following are the cricket fixtures in Feilding for this afternoon: Nomads (m.) v. Old Boys, No. 1; High School B (m.) v. Public Service, No. 2; Feilding (m.) v. High School A No. 3. All matches will be played on Kowhai Park. Repairs to the road surface on the Kimbolton road railway level crossing are being carried out by the Borough Council staff. The crossing has been in a very rough condition for some time and the levelling up of the uneven surface will be welcomed by all traffic.
Pupils of the Feilding Agricultural High School will present their annual entertainment in the school hall this evening. A varied programme of songs, plays aud dances has been prepared and it is anticipated patrons will be rewarded with a display of a high standard.
Two Feilding Agricultural High School students were present at a banquet for graduating New Zealand and Australian airmen from N«f. 3 Wireless School, at Tuxedo, Winnipeg, in September last. included among those present were L.A.C. P. Karena, lone Maori member of the squadron, while the Feilding High School was represented by L.A.C. M. G. McGregor and L.A.C. N. H. Crozier.
On Wednesday afternoon the central committee of the Feilding Lady Galway Sewing Circle held its final meeting for the year. Mrs. C. E. Taylor voiced the feelings of all present in expressing admiration for, and appreciation of, the untiring selfless service of the Mayoress (Mrs. R. E. Seddon) in all public causes. Mrs. Seddon, she said, had set a high standard, which was ft challenge to all women to do their utmost. Mrs. A. J. Humphreys presented Mrs. Seddon with a beautiful shoulder spray as an outward token of the feelings which had been voiced. Mrs. Seddon feelingly replied. The circle has gone into recess till February.
