Cypriots' Great Service to Britain
RUGBY, Nov. 6.
The news that the casualties suffered by tho Cypriot troops number 2420 killed, wounded, and missing and prisoners draws attention in the words of the Times to the excellent record of the now unit of the British Army—the Cyprus Regiment formed a few months afte*r the outbreak of war. This experiment succeeded beyond all expectations and over 19,000 Cypriots— Turks as well as Greeks—volunteered for service. Tho Cypriot transport companies were tho only colonial troops to serve in France. There and in the retreat to Dunkirk, in the Libyan and Syrian campaigns, iu tho arduous and bitter fighting in Greece and Crete, the islanders have done admirably and have won warm praise of British officers. The people of Cyprus have multiplied their claims upon the aid Britain can give them.
