Lady Golfers Pay Tribute to Mrs. L. Cooper

At the conclusion of play at Hokowhitu yesterday, members of the Manawatu Ladies’ Golf Club gathered in the club-house for afternon tea, making it a special occasion to honour Mrs. L. Cooper, former secretary. A long table was arranged in the centre of the room with tall vases of jonquils, Iceland poppies and birch foliage and special tea was served. Mrs. L. Seifert, president, voiced her pleasure in the attendance and in the fp.ct that Mrs. Cooper had been able to be present. Members might not be aware that golf had been out of the question for her for some time, she said, owing to Mr. Cooper’s illness. It was gratifying to know that he was now able to return to his duties. Mrs. Seifert said she would like to take the opportunity of thanking Mrs. Cooper for all she had done for the club. The season marked her twelfth year as a member of the committee, during which time she had served as assistant-secretary for six years, then threo years hs' honorary secretary, and this season she was club captain, an offico she also held nine years ago. She had carried out her duties most efficiently and was anxious at all times to do her utmost for the players and in the interest of the club. It gave her very great pleasure, the speaker said, on behalf of the lady members to ask Mrs. Cooper’s acceptance of a handsome handbag and crystal jug and bowl in appreciation of all she had done with the hope that she would long be spared to play at Hokowhitu. Mrs. E. Wimsett (hon. secreta| ) presented Mrs. Cooper with a shouluer spray as a token from the committee. 'Mrs. Cooper, who .was accorded musical honours and cheers, feelingly returned thanks for the gifts and for the tea party so pleasantly arranged. She said she had enjoyed her close association with the members and particularly with Mrs. Seifert, w’ho was a wonderful “ mother” to the club from whom she had had many kindnesses, j She would treasure the gifts made to I her and the kindly remarks accompany- ! ing them. i There were apologies from Mesdames j J. P. Innes, Wingate, K. Innes, H. E. Edmunds, Reed, C. Anderson and H. R. Whitehead.
