VERY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION Tho capacity of the W.l. Hall was fully taxed on Thursday evening when a concert, embracing a comprenensivo and highly enjoyable programme, was ueid in aid ot tne Home Guard Band tunds. As well as many popular local artists, a number of visiting entertainers were present, and tlie entertainment provided was ut a nigh standard. Mr. B. BrooKer (buna president) expressed tliauKs for mo line support tne lunction nad received. Be tiiuuKeo the Mayor and council for tlie use ox me baud instruments and stated that the band was always ready to do any service to the community. He thanked ail who nad contributed to the programme, the local artists, visitors, accompanists aud the band.
The Mayor (Mr. li. R. Johnston) also expressed tnanns aud complimented tne bandmaster (Mr. b. Petterson) on the elhcieut manner in which he had brought the band along during the short time since its incexition. Tne Mayor also expressed the hope that when tho present hostilities are ended the banu will continue to function as a Municipal Band.
Mr. H. Petterson disclaimed the credit for the band’s periormnnce. The credit was due to the men, who were keen and easy to work with. He endorsed the remarks of the previous speakers, and thanked the audience for its support which would enable the baud to keep the instruments in good repair and to purchase from time to time quantities of new music.
Ihe National Anthem brought a very successful function to a close.
