Mr. George H. Scott, of Wellington, son of the late Mr. G. H. Scott, Victoria Avenue, was a visitor to the city this week.

Major N. C. Speight has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and appointed to command the Sixth Field Ambulance temporarily. Sympathy with Mr. 11. J. Lancaster, a member of the Manawatu-Oroua .River Board, who is at present indisposed, was voiced by the board yesterday.

Constable P. McEntee, district clerk at the Palmerston North police station, is at present a patient in a private hospital undergoing treatment for bronchitis.
