BULLS SALE Dalgcty and Company, Limited report on the annual heifer fair which was held in conjunction with the usual fortnightly sale. Approximately 100 head of dairy heifers and cows wero submitted to a large attendance of buyers from the surrounding district. Tlie quality all over was the best yardeu for many years, the heifers coming forward in excellent order and condition, of good type and quality. Competition was keen from the outset and all the well known lines sold at prices ranging from £9 to £l2, late calving heifers selling from £7 10s to £8 10s. The best of the dairy cows sold from £8 to £lO 10s, the aged sorts selling from £5 to £7 10s. The top price of the day was obtained by Messrs. T. H. Williamson and Sons, tianson, for a line of eight well bred heifers close to profit which realised £l2 4s and two other pens selling at £lO Is and £lO 10s. Messrs* C. Coleman und Sons’ annual draft was also an outstanding line, which sold from £lO to £l2. A good yarding of fat cattle sold to a good attendance of butchers and there was a total clearance at prices iu advance of recent sales. A specially advertised entry of 300 5-year-old breeding ewes r.w. Southdown rams offered on account of Mr. R. J. K. Gray, Bulls, commanded keen attention. The lino came forward in excellent order and condition, showing well in lamb and eventually changed hands at 19s 7d. The balance of the sheep yarding, which was made up of a few pens of fat lambs and ewes, met with a ready sale at late rates. Approximately 100 store pigs of good quality came forward, these selling under keen competition at prices showing an appreciation on the previous sale. The best of the store pigs sold from 35s to £2 6s. The annual pig fair will be held on Monday week, 18th instant. Quotations: —Fat bullocks £6, £6 15s, £7 Bs, £8 18s, £9, £lO 17s 6d; fat cows, £3 15s, £4 ss, £4 15s; store cows, £3, £3 11s: 5-year-old ewes, 19s Id, 19s 7d; fat lambs 20s, 20s Gd; fat ewes, 12s 13s 9d; weaner pigs, 23s’, 23s 6d; store pigs, 275, 325, 33s 6d, 365, 3Ss Gd, 395, £2, £2 6s. CLEARING SALE AT OPIKI Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having a successful clearing salo of dairy stock on Thursday last on account of Mr. George Larsen, of Messrs. Seifert and Larsen, Opiki. There was a good attendance of local buyers, who were keenly interested in the. herd of 60 Jersey dairy cows, which came forward in excellent order and condition. Buyers operated freely on all good quality young cows close to profit and an excellent sale resulted for this class at prices ranging from £9 to £l4 15s. Late calvers met with a fair sale only. Nevertheless, prices all round were quite up to recent sales.
