Strike at U.S. Navy Yard

NEW YORK, July 29. The United States Navy 's expansion programme at the New York naval yard and other defence construction jobs was abruptly and unexpectedly halted today, when American Federation of Labour electricians walked out despite the union officials’ assurances that defence work would not be interrupted. The strike originated in a dispute with the Consolidated Edison Corporation which threatens to disrupt all building operations in the whole metropolis.
