Feilding Borough Affairs
MEETING OF COUNCIL The Feilding Borough Council met last eA r ening, the Mayor (Mr.. T. L. Seddon) presiding. There were also present Crs. H. J. Dewe, A. C. AlcCorkindale, A. C. Buist, F. B. Desmond, L. W. Penliey, R. Burne, C. B. McClure and P. G. Guy. Support was accorded a proposal that members of the Forces about to proceed overseas should be given free travelling warrants on the railways. The Baptist Young Men’s Bible Class Union was granted the use of Johnston Park for a camp during Easter next. In regard to the petition of certain ratepayers praying for exclusion from the borough, the Mayor reported that it had been decided to lodge an objection. The librarian (Mr. R. W. H. Wood) reported that subscribers totalled 5T2 and 2854 books were changed during June. Rental fees now amounted to an average of almost £2 10s per week. The council resolved to support the idea of an alteration in the heavy traffic licensing year, and also the granting of short period hea\*v traffic licenses. Tho engineer reported that experiments were proceeding with the sinking of a soak well in connection with the borough water supply. At present work was proceeding with the sinking of a large concrete-lined well, and steps were being taken for the installation of a power pumping unit.
