Feilding Branch N.Z. Labour Party

A general meeting of the Feifding branch of the N.Z. Labour Party was held recently in .the Trades Hall, Mr. C. H. Fry presiding. Members stood in silence as an expression of respect and sympathy in tho passing of Captain W. J. Lyon killed in action. Mrs. I. Adams intimated that she was prepared to accept the position of Government nominee to the Women’s War Auxiliary. Mr. G. Guard was congratulated on being chosen as representative to tho Feilding Fire Board. The two following resolutions received unanimous support:— “That this meeting is of the opinion that nothing can be gained by, and will oppose any suggestion of the formation of, a Coalition Government; on tho grounds that (1) the advocated political unity will not be achieved thereby; (2) that the War Council as now constituted is fully capable, and is making every endeavour to develop tho maximum war effort.”

“That we will not countenance any general extension of the 40-hour %eek so ardently expounded through the press, believing that ample provision lias been made in the setting up of the Industrial Emergency Council to extend hours and vary awards by arbitration, where warranted in any industry producing for, or connected with war production.”
