Some Australians at Crete

MELBOURNE, May 22. The Minister for the Army, Mr. Spender, stated to-day that a substantial number of Australian troops had lunded at Crete after the evacuation trom Greece. They were under tho command of General Freyberg. Recent dispatches did not fully reveal the extent to which these troops had been relieved by British units. Mr. .Spender said that he had not received any report to indicate that Australians had arrived in Cyprus to reinforce the existing British and local garrisons, as reported from London. Mr. Spender said that 350 Australian sick and wounded soldiers had to be left behind in Greece. Some medical officers had remained with them.
