Spirit of Co-operation

“Those who drive or ride motorvehicles, and those who walk, or who ride or drivo other vehicles or anynals, are road-using units; unless there is understanding and co-operation between these units, continued endeavour to achieve the unavoidable minimum in accidents and fatalities on. our roads will be negatived,” says the latest road safety message of tho Automobile Association (Manawat.u) Inc. “It is a truth that accidents do not happen. Accidents are caused. They are caused through errors of omission or commission; someone’s neglect to do something, someone’s negligence in doing something. Someone is at fault. “It may be the preoccupied pedestrian, the" speeding motorist, the careless cyclist, the owner who allowed his stock to wander on the highway, or the forgetful child, among others. “The necessity is seen for the education and efficient control of all roadusing units to the end that all will realise that road safety is a personal matter, one for tho individual. An appeal is made to the commonsenso of those who go upon the roads, an appeal for an understanding of each other’s difficulties.

“Regulations have been framed for the guidance of all kinds of road users who are expected to kDow and apply the simple rules of safety embodied in the regulations.

11 They are but a code of safe roadusing principles which leave room for the application of individual commonsense, tolerance, friendliness and helpfulness. An appeal is made for the exercise of those virtues mentioned by all classes of road-users, because they ar.e the essence of any successful cooperative effort. 11 Motorists, pedestrians, cyclist-*, horse drivers or riders, stock owners, teachers parents—all who can by precept and/or example contribute to the elimination of road dangers owe it as a national obligation to assist to the fullest possible extent. It is a vital, responsibility on every individual. There are no exceptions. ’’
