Gift Evening
BRIDE-TO-BE HONOURED A gift and social evening in honour of Miss Eileen May Burt, second daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs. C. Burt, Pahiatua, and Air. William Moffait Piper, youngest son of Air. au J d A 1 rs. J. D. Piper, Makaivo, was held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall last evening. The function was most successful and tkc attendance, which included many prominent town and country residents, was very large. There were a large number of beautiful wedding gifts. Air. Piper, who has joined up with the Air Force, in a brief speech thanked the gathering for tho great honour conferred upon Miss Burt and himself. Both he and the bride-to-be greatly aprpeciated the compliment paid to them and the numeious wedding gifts had completely surprised them. Community singing and dancing followed. Mr. Peter Jackson, who was in 1 great form, was the pianist. The supper arrangements were perfect, for which a great deal of credit is due to Mrs. G. Jones, who organised the function. I During the evening little Alary McI Ali’nu presented Miss Burt with a beautiful shoulder spray. The happy couple, 1 who were completely overwhelmed with congratulations, are to be married on Monday next.
